THE PROPERTY

In the fall of 2017, Project Living Hope purchased 19.5 acres of property for the construction of the King Center.  The location is ideally situated. The property is cradled in a low-lying area with hills protecting it on three sides. It is relatively flat and there aren’t any streams nearby to cause flooding concerns. The ease of access it has to many major cities will, in the unfortunate event of a disaster, mean we are in the best place to make the greatest difference.

THE CAMPUS

The King Center is Project Living Hope’s campus and hub. It is designed as a multi-purpose campus with an educational center, community hall, shop, guesthouses, and sports complex. These buildings will facilitate our ongoing job skills and athletics programs and will also help us to expand our mission of working in disaster preparedness and community development. The King Center is a place for learning, serving, playing, and building relationships as a community.

Progress has proceeded well so far due to several reasons. This includes a committed and focused team with a great vision, continued giving of time, talent, and treasure by volunteers and supporters, and a welcoming community in Haiti. We are thankful for the support, the momentum, and the progress.

VOCATIONAL CENTER

The vocational center provides a covered work space for work projects, job skills training, and daily activities including artisan crafts class and staff and player lunches. The building also hosts community events such as worship nights, family date nights, and parties.

multipurpose building

The multipurpose building includes the PLH office and a large classroom which hosts the PLH English classes, staff meetings, and virtual training workshops until we are able to build the education center.

Kitchen

Almost finished! The PLH kitchen building includes a large kitchen where our cooks can prepare player and staff meals as well as food items to sell during games and events. The building also includes a laundry room and a fruit processing room where fruit and other produce will be prepared for drying. With many challenges of getting materials to our campus, we are missing some final pipes as well as some of the appliances to make the kitchen fully functional.

Bathroom & Locker Room

The facility includes a men’s side and women’s side each including a multi-stall restroom and a large locker room where players can change before games.

Soccer FieldS

We currently have two full-sized soccer fields. Because extensive field use as well as water limitations make it difficult to keep grass alive, we plan to install artificial turf on the fields.

WATER PURIFICATION CENTER

PLH purchased a small bio-sand filter which allows us to filter drinking water for our programs. We hope to get our water filtration center up and running soon which will be able to produce a much larger supply of water and provide a place for community members to purchase drinking water at a low price, and create jobs for locals.

Basketball Court

Basketball courts are few and far between in Haiti, though basketball is popular among the youth. The court hosts practices, games, and clinics. We have plans to add a second basketball court as well as two volleyball courts.

Chicken Coops

After many delays and challenges with ports closed, downscaling our design, and roads being blocked, materials to build two chicken coops were finally delivered to the PLH campus! We poured a concrete foundation to protect the birds from mongoose and other predators, erected the coop structures, and are getting ready to outfit the coops with nesting boxes and other equipment. We have three staff selected to participate in training to manage the chicken business. It is our plan to raise meat chickens as well as egg-laying hens.

athletics container

All of our athletics gear is currently housed in this 40 foot trailer. We would love to replace this trailer with a permanent building for both gear storage as well as a gym for players and community members.

devotions tree

This tree is typically where player devotions are held each practice. These devotions are just one way that our coaches disciple and mentor the players in our soccer and basketball programs.

COMING SOON!

THE EDUCATIONAL CENTER

Plans and funds are starting to come together for the first large-scale building! This center will include four fully-equipped, modern classrooms, a library and study hall, a conference room, a computer lab and offices. These spaces will provide valuable education and training to hundreds. We desire to see more people in this community become empowered, able to provide for themselves and their families and lead Haiti into a better future. We have seen firsthand how education and employment opportunities provide life-changing hope and purpose.

or monthly gift to the building fund?

FUTURE BUILDING PROJECTS

Guest House

The guest house will host visiting teams and other guests. It will include several bunk rooms and private rooms as well as a kitchenette, a gathering room and an open-air porch.

Community Hall

The community hall is a large gathering place that will be ideal for community meetings, events, conferences, and, when needed, shelter durning hurricanes and storms.

As God continues to lead us into the future, we have become even more certain of His mission for us here in Haiti.
