CONSTRUCTION FUNDRAISER
You can be part of giving Haiti’s youth and families hope for a better future. This spring, we will complete the final grading of the soccer fields, install drainage on the property, and construct the first two buildings for the campus. Already, we have received over $115,000 from a number of individuals and businesses! Please donate toward this effort and help Project Living Hope reach the remaining $39,000 goal by March 31. It is such an honor to know that you believe in PLH and are willing to give some of the money God has entrusted to you toward this work!
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In the fall of 2017, Project Living Hope purchased 19.5 acres of property in Camp Marie, Haiti for the construction of the King Center. During the months of February and March of 2019, fifteen American and ten Haitian team members worked on the mass grading project that spanned seven weeks. After overcoming challenges with rental equipment breakdowns and a national fuel shortage, an estimated 80,000 cubic yards of dirt was moved and the building pads for the King Center facilitates, two FIFA regulation soccer fields, and a retention pond and ditch were completed.
Our volunteer engineers, project managers and operators in Oregon are returning to Haiti in March, 2020 for a variety of site work activities. The site work includes repairing some eroded areas, installing a new stormwater drainage system, completing the final grading on the two fields, and regrading the surface drainage system (ditches and ponds). To complete this job as well as to maintain our property, grass soccer fields and gravel road, we have purchased a CAT 420D backhoe. We will rent other construction equipment to complete the site work noted above including a dozer (D4 or D6), grader, excevator and roller.
We will also begin construction on two buildings during this time. The first one will be a 26x40 garage to store equipment and materials and host staff meetings and English classes until the educational center is built. The second building will be a 40x40 covered shop area bounded by two containers. This building will host job skills trainings and be a workplace for future projects. In March, we will final grade the pads, form and pour the concrete foundations and slabs, and set up for building erection. The garage is a prefabricated building kit made here in Oregon, while the covered shop area will be fabricated on-site.
